Nasdaq’s latest short-interest report points to a mixed change in trading sentiment across its Global Market securities. Based on reporting from GlobeNewswire — Public Cos., short interest stood at 18,406,468,581 shares at the July 15, 2026 settlement date.
That total was lower than the 18,453,725,441 shares reported for the June 30 settlement date. The July figure covered 3,836 securities, compared with 3,804 issues in the previous reporting period. In other words, the aggregate number of shares sold short declined even as the number of securities included in the report increased.
The more noticeable movement was in the reported days figure. Mid-July short interest represented 3.07 days, up from 2.45 days at the end of June. For owners and managers of North American companies that follow Nasdaq-listed businesses, this is a reminder that headline market measures can move in different directions at the same time: the total number of shorted shares can fall while the reported days measure rises.
This release does not provide company-by-company results, so it does not support conclusions about any particular stock, industry or operating business. Small and mid-sized businesses should therefore treat the figures as broad market information rather than a direct forecast for sales, financing conditions or customer demand. Owners tracking publicly traded peers may find it useful to compare future Nasdaq reports with developments affecting the specific companies relevant to their sector.
